FLOURISH
MENTORING/DISCIPLESHIP
“And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.” 2 Timothy 2:1-2
The most important decisions we can make
are about who we are and who we are becoming.
Who: Women college age and up interested in being mentored/discipled for 1 year
When: Various days/times available AM or PM
What: Small group (1-4 people) discipling by trained mentors
Materials: FLOURISH (Passion Publishing) - Year 1 & Year 2
Why: God has instructed believers to go and make disciples.
The discipling/mentoring process is different than what many of us have experienced in a church setting. We call some classes “discipleship classes” when in fact they are simply Bible teaching classes, not true discipling/ mentoring training. Many women have never experienced an authentic discipling relationship and are therefore hesitant in their obedience to God’s command to make disciples. Whatever our age or stage of life, we should be being mentored by someone, and at the same time also reaching out mentoring others.
What is a mentor/discipler? One who walks alongside another to train them as followers of Christ by scripture study, prayer, accountability and modeling the Christian life to them just as 2 Timothy 2:1-2 stated above. As Christian women, we need a Christian worldview that impacts every area of our daily life. The FLOURISH material we use for Year 1 will take us through specific chapters and books of the Bible allowing women to teach women to hear from the Father through His written letter to us - The Bible. We will learn to hear God’s voice on our own, to study His Word, pray in a way that “avails much,” and develop other spiritual disciplines in our lives that will draw us into a deeper intimacy with Our Father. In short we train others to become spiritual “self-feeders” who can go to the Word and receive their daily bread from the Holy Spirit Himself.
Through the Flourish weekly gatherings we hope to do 5 things:
To disciple women to love God and love others.
To teach women to apply God’s Word to every area of life.
To train women in the disciplines of the Christian life that will sustain them through all the varied seasons of life.
To provide women accountability, mentorship, and friendship as they grow and develop in their walk with the Lord.
To prepare women to disciple others and thus replicate the mentoring lifestyle.
“Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.” Titus 2:3-5
